Grain & Light

Notes on shooting, developing and scanning film. Mostly 35mm, some 120.

Stand development, revisited

Semi-stand in dilute Rodinal is forgiving, but agitation timing still matters more than the recipes suggest.

Scanning without a dedicated scanner

A light pad, a macro lens and a copy stand get surprisingly close. The hard part is film flatness, not resolution.

Expired film: what actually changes

Overexpose by a stop per decade of age as a starting point. Colour shifts are less predictable than speed loss.
